Christmas for Kids
What is Christmas for Kids?
We now serve over 3,000 children at Christmas, including children in foster care represented through Montgomery County Children’s Services and children attending low-income schools and residing in churches and homeless shelters within the Greater Dayton area.
Every donation we receive helps a child in need in our community. Our Christmas for Kids program is our biggest and most notable event, and it allows us to provide children with new winter coats, hats, and gloves, as well as gifts to open on Christmas Day. Holiday giving is truly a magical time for children, and we hope to provide that magic to every child through Christmas for Kids.
Registration for our Christmas for Kids program typically fills by September.
For individuals seeking community resources this holiday season, please understand that registration for our Christmas for Kids program is limited. Registration for this program is prioritized to serve children represented through Montgomery County Children’s Services and the low-income schools, churches, homeless shelters, and other organizations FLOC currently works with. We cannot guarantee assistance to individual families outside of the organizations we already serve. Thank you for your understanding.
The History of Christmas for Kids
Christmas for Kids all started in early 1980’s with a few caseworkers. They recognized that the children they cared for would not be celebrating Christmas but for their help. That first year, they bought gifts for the thirty five children in their care. In the late 1980’s, FLOC took over that program, eventually serving all 900 children in foster care Christmas magic. We opened our doors to the community, and this past Christmas served over 3,000 children holiday joy. A gift we give each child is a winter coat and hat, mittens, filled stockings and individual presents, as chosen by the parent and their personal shopper.

Toy Cottage
What is the Toy Cottage?
The FLOC toy cottage is where we keep our toys before the Christmas season. We work hard to try and stock our shelves before we bring in families and we are always looking for donations to make the season special for local children. Our toy cottage is set up similarly to a little store and organization can sometimes be hard. Although we are always looking for donations to make the holiday season special for our kids it is important that we are able to organize our shelves so that every child is given a toy that will be both age appropriate and equal to gifts given to other children. Money donations help us to buy gift from our list of toys to keep the shelves organized and easy for volunteers to help hand out presents. If you wish to give the gift of a toy please reach out to us. We are happy to help you donate to a child in Dayton but sticking to our list of toys helps keep the toy cottage going. With so many children we help each year, organized shelves mean that we can reach more kids faster.
