Christmas for Kids

What is Christmas for Kids?

We now serve over 2,400 children at Christmas, including children in foster care represented through Montgomery County Children’s Services and children attending low-income schools and residing in churches and homeless shelters within the Greater Dayton area.

Every donation we receive helps a child in need in our community. Our Christmas for Kids program is our biggest and most notable event, and it allows us to provide children with new winter coats, hats, and gloves, as well as gifts to open on Christmas Day. Holiday giving is truly a magical time for children, and we hope to provide that magic to every child through Christmas for Kids.

Registration for our Christmas for Kids program typically fills by September.

For individuals seeking
community resources this holiday season, please understand that registration for our Christmas for Kids program is limited. Registration for this program is prioritized to serve children represented through Montgomery County Children’s Services and the low-income schools, churches, homeless shelters, and other organizations FLOC currently works with. We cannot guarantee assistance to individual families outside of the organizations we already serve. Thank you for your understanding.

The History of Christmas for Kids

Christmas for Kids all started in early 1980’s with a few caseworkers. They recognized that the children they cared for would not be celebrating Christmas but for their help. That first year, they bought gifts for the thirty five children in their care. In the late 1980’s, FLOC took over that program, eventually serving all 900 children in foster care Christmas magic. We opened our doors to the community, and this past Christmas served over 2,600 children holiday joy. A gift we give each child is a winter coat and hat, mittens, filled stockings and individual presents, as chosen by the parent and their personal shopper.

The Giving Tree

For churches, businesses, and organizations interested in helping

If you have a church, business, or organization that you’d like to bring together in giving to For Love of Children, we have an opportunity designed just for you!

Supplying our Toy Cottage for Christmas for Kids can be difficult, especially during Santa’s off-season.  The Giving Tree, a secondary program within our Christmas for Kids program, allows churches, businesses, and other organizations to help support our ongoing efforts to supply the FLOC Christmas Cottage with clothing and toys that will go directly to children during our Christmas for Kids events.

How The Giving Tree Works

We have a large list of clothing items and toys that continually need to be restocked to meet the needs of the children we serve during our Christmas for Kids events. Through The Giving Tree, we take this list and make cards that members of your organization can take home and shop with to find and purchase gifts for local area children.

If you or your organization are interested in joining our efforts to provide gifts for Christmas for Kids, please reach out to us for more information! We truly appreciate your help and interest in The Giving Tree.

Toy Cottage

What is the Toy Cottage?

The FLOC toy cottage is where we keep our toys before the Christmas season. We work hard to try and stock our shelves before we bring in families and we are always looking for donations to make the season special for local children. Our toy cottage is set up similarly to a little store and organization can sometimes be hard. Although we are always looking for donations to make the holiday season special for our kids it is important that we are able to organize our shelves so that every child is given a toy that will be both age appropriate and equal to gifts given to other children. Money donations help us to buy gift from our list of toys to keep the shelves organized and easy for volunteers to help hand out presents. If you wish to give the gift of a toy please reach out to us. We are happy to help you donate to a child in Dayton but sticking to our list of toys helps keep the toy cottage going. With so many children we help each year, organized shelves mean that we can reach more kids faster.

Your Donation Helps a Dayton Child

When you give a donation to FLOC, For Love of Children you are giving to the future of the Dayton community.

We are a local charity and all proceeds go to help children near you that need that little bit of extra help from the community. We work hard every year with volunteers working around the clock to make sure that children not only get the holiday they deserve but food, books, and birthday presents they may not normally receive without your help.

Improving local Dayton is everyone’s goal. At For Love of Children our goal to improve the future starts with improving the lives of those that will live in our future Dayton. We dream of giving local children the same opportunities that we had growing up, and in some cases, better. We want every Daytonian to have a bright future full of opportunities.
